First, a fast. Going without food for a day can be a little intimidating. But Fresh Vibes recommends 3-8 days for our juice (detox) fast. Actually, for the first day or two of a fast, your body uses up the food remaining in your digestive tract from previous meals. For the next couple of days, your body uses stored food reserves from your liver. This means that a fast doesn’t really begin until about the fifth day. We recommend a three day fast which is closer to a eight day fast, and attainable by nearly everyone.
*(Diabetics and persons on medication requiring meals should check with their physician, of course. Fasting is not for children, pregnant women or nursing women. If there is a medical reason why you should not fast, then don’t. Check with your doctor first.)

Since “fasting” conjures up visions of starvation, it is important to realize that we are talking about JUICE fasting here. Freshly made vegetable juices, taken in quantity, are not a beverage. They are a raw, highly digestible food.

 

During the actual detoxification days, approximately 32 to 96 ounces of juice is suggested, with at least half of the juice being green vegetable-based. Green vegetables are rich in chlorophyll, which is said to help cleanse and heal the digestive tract. The vitamins and nutrients in juice can oxidize or decrease over time so it is ideal to drink the juice right away. The presence of light and oxygen speed up this process, but you can slow it down by keeping the juice in the refrigerator. Drink from the 16 oz containers that the juice comes in to be consumed. You only want to open the container once and that is when you drink the juice. It is best to drink the juice within a 24 hour period but it can safely be stored for up to 3 days. You can freeze any leftover juice but make sure to allow for adequate thawing time. Juice should be thawed in the refrigerator and can take up to 24 hours to completely thaw.

To start your juice detoxification, each day upon rising drink 2 cups (16 oz) of lukewarm water. Depending on when you normally take your meals the schedule below should be followed. To optimize the absorption of nutrients, drink each juice slowly rather than gulping it down. Juices should be consumed approximately one to two hours apart. The final beverage of the day should be at least three hours before bedtime. If you need to eat (chew) something, consider an apple or a small salad without dressing.
